Baja Shakespeare: A 24-Year Legacy of Theater in Los Barriles

Hey everyone! Today, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Kim, a dedicated member of Baja Shakespeare, to learn more about the history and magic behind this incredible theater group. From humble beginnings to 24 years of captivating performances, Baja Shakespeare has become an integral part of Los Barriles community.

When Baja Shakespeare first began, it was seen as a bit of a joke, something silly to try out. But little did they know that this small experiment would turn into something extraordinary. It all started when Smokehouse Clarence Moyers, a local legend, tempted directors Bob and Leslie Currier with the promise of delicious smoked fish if they would come and direct Macbeth. And just like that, the seed was planted for what would become a long-lasting tradition.

What sets Baja Shakespeare apart is the incredible sense of community it fosters. From the dedicated cast to the talented designers, technicians, set designers, stage managers, and makeup artists, everyone comes together to create something truly special. It’s a testament to the power of art and theater in bringing people together. Over the years, Baja Shakespeare has become a beloved part of Los Barriles community, with no signs of slowing down.

Each year, Baja Shakespeare puts on a show that leaves audiences in awe. From classic Shakespearean plays to modern adaptations, they bring the magic of theater to life. With a band, music, and singing, the performances are a feast for the senses. It’s incredible to see how this once small experiment has grown into a cherished tradition that captivates the hearts of both locals and visitors alike.

As I wrap up this interview with Kim, it’s clear that Baja Shakespeare is more than just a theater group. It’s a testament to the power of passion, community, and the arts. For 24 years, they have brought the works of Shakespeare and other theatrical masterpieces to life, enchanting audiences with their performances. Baja Shakespeare is a shining example of how a shared love for the stage can create something truly magical.
