A Watersports Paradise in Los Barriles: An Interview with watersports enthusiast Megan O’Leary

Originally starting as a small beachside operation, Exotikite has grown into a premier destination for watersports enthusiasts. I had the opportunity to sit down with the founder of Exotikite and learn more about her journey and the exciting watersports they offer.

Exotikite’s founder has been living in Los Barriles since 2003. What started as annual trips with her parents eventually led to falling in love with the place and making it their permanent home.

One fateful December day, while hiding from the wind, the founder stumbled upon kitesurfing on the beach. Mesmerized by the sight of people gracefully flying across the water, she wasted no time and signed up for lessons the very next day.

Over twenty years ago, Exotikite was born from a palapa on the beach. Since then, it has grown into a thriving kiteboarding school they have been dedicating to providing top-notch services and unforgettable experiences.

Exotikite offers a range of exciting watersports activities. From kiteboarding to wingfoiling, eFoiling, and wave cramps. Wheter you’re a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, they have something for everyone.

While the number of students they teach has decreased over the years, Exotikite still welcomes around 100 students annually. The sport may not be growing as rapidly as before, but their dedication to teaching remains unwavering.

Wingfoiling has become the most popular windsport at Exotikite. They even offer a package that combines wingfoiling and eFoiling, allowing beginners to experience the thrill of gliding on the water in just 4 hours! It’s the perfect recipe for an instant gratification!

For those with limited time, eFoiling or wingfoiling are great choices. These activities offer a quicker progression compared to kiteboarding, ensuring you make the most of your vacation.

Exotikite has a loyal following of return students, whom they fondly refer to as the Exotikite family. The fact that people keep coming back speaks volumes about the quality of their instruction and the incredible experiences they offer.

Exotikite is conveniently located next to La Playa Restaurant. It’s easy to find and provides a perfect starting point for your watersports adventure.

Exotikite is a haven for watersports enthusiasts in Los Barriles. With their experienced instructors, and stunning location, they continue to create lifelong memories for their students. So, if you’re looking for an unfogettable watersports adventure, Exotikite is the place to be!

Lastly, I asked Megan what advice would she give for anyone visiting Los Barriles for the first time, to this she responded: “Take in everything the town has to offer, from adrenaline acvtivities to volunteer groups, there is something for everyone here!”. So pack your bags, embrace the adventure, and create memories that will last a lifetime in Los Barriles!
